About Us

Mountain Spirits Bird rescue is run by Charlie and Sue Miller. The rescue is operated out of their home near Ulster and Towanda, PA.

The Millers rescued their first bird in February of 2000, when they bought a very cold Cockatiel at an unheated local stockyard auction. They got involved with helping Pat Pipan with My House of Wings Bird Rescue shortly after that. After 2 years they took a year off, then started their own rescue and named it Mountains Spirits.

In their first large bird rescue they retrieved three Macaws from a filthy, dark, 6x6 closet. Ruby, a Green Wing Macaw with a 46" wing span, was in a 23" square cage. Moly, a Buffons Macaw with a 38" wingspan, was in a 24" round cage. Angel, a Scarlet macaw, was so stressed that she has plucked every feather she could reach on herself.

Since starting Mountain Spirits, the Millers have placed 35 large birds (conures and larger) and 28 small birds (cockatiels and smaller). Counting their time with My House of Wings, the Milllers have been involved in over 500 bird rescues.

Mountain Spirits is a key component of the Bradford County CART Exotic Animal Team.

Mountain Spirits is a partner with the Valley Relief Council.

Mountain Spirits is not a 501(c)(3) non-profit as they can not currently afford the paperwork required for filing all the forms.
